If you look back at your life five years ago, what do you see? Can you say that you are better off now than you were then? How have you improved your life? We make many mistakes along the way, but our lives should be in a general upward trend. It has been said that in five years you will be the same except for the people you meet and the books you read, so make sure you read good books and spend time with good people. Take active steps to change the things in your life that you want different. I spent many years wishing things were different, but never taking steps to make it happen. For example, I would walk by something and think to myself, “I should tend to that when I have time”. The fact is that you can make it possible to never have time. If you want it taken care of, you should say “What is preventing me from doing that right now?” That approach has caused me to have fewer things in my life that I keep walking past thinking “I need to take care of that”. You can’t always stop what you are doing and deal with something, but making this a continual process means that at some point you will get to it. Even if it means staying awake a little later than you planned, or spending less time in front of the TV.
